Our Commission Consortium
As Bells of the Cascades embarks on its 35th Anniversary in 2024-25, we invite you to be part of our celebration!
Join our COMMISSION CONSORTIUM to help create Harmonious, a new handbell composition from our director, Matthew Compton!
What is a Commission Consortium?
A commission consortium invites many patrons (that’s you) of an organization (that’s us) to pool their resources to commission a new music composition.
Bells of the Cascades will work with Matthew to create Harmonious, a brand new original Level 3 handbell composition. The new music will be accessible to many different types of ensembles who will enjoy being a part of this exciting community project. All funds from the consortium will go to BOC for our ambitious $10,000 fundraising goal for our 35th Anniversary in the 2024-2025 season, and we know that with your participation, we can reach this goal!
Bells of the Cascades will premiere Harmonious during our 35th Anniversary weekend.

Commission Details
- An exciting Level 3 original composition for 3-7 octaves of handbells and handchimes, entitled Harmonious.
- Approximate performance length of 3-5 minutes.
- $150 buy-in cost with additional tiers and benefits for larger donation amounts, due by March 1, 2025.
- Commissioner name on the final score.
- Score will be delivered to all commissioners by August 1, 2025.
- Performance exclusivity for all commissioners until August 1, 2026.
Commission Tiers and Benefits
You may join the Commission Consortium at any level, with the tiers below receiving special thank you benefits for patrons’ contributions.
Each higher ranking tier will also include all benefits from the lower tiers.
All Tiers
Commissioners at all tiers will receive:
- The Harmonious score to be delivered to all commissioners via PDF by August 1, 2025.
- Performance exclusivity for all commissioners until August 1, 2026.
- Two free tickets to the “Harmonious: The Voices of Many!” concert weekend on May 31-June 1, 2025.
Commissioner $150
- Commissioner (group or individual) name on the final score.
- Receive a PDF of the final score.
Upgraded Commissioner $250
- Receive 15 signed physical copies of Harmonious.
Promotional Commissioner $400
- Promote your business, ensemble, or upcoming event in our 35th anniversary program booklet!
Zoom Call or Facetime $500
- A one-hour Zoom or Facetime call (or other video calling service) with Matthew! Can be one-on-one, or use this time as a Q&A/Masterclass with your ensemble! If you’re local to the Portland, OR area, Matthew will come in person to work with your ensemble.
Mini Composition $650
- Your very own unique, one-of-a-kind custom mini-composition written for you and you alone! It'll be handwritten on a piece of staff paper, signed, dated, and ready for framing. Completely unique. A chance to own the only copy in the world of an original Matthew Compton piece! We'll even try to make a rough recording of it for you.
Happy Hour and Meet & Greet $750
- Join director Matthew Compton and members of the Bells of the Cascades organization for an afternoon happy hour and meet & greet during the weekend of our 35th anniversary concert! Details to be sent closer to the date.
- Access to priority seating areas at the 35th anniversary concerts.
Handwritten Score $1000 · limit one
- A special and unique reward... or gift for someone! You will receive the original handwritten manuscript of Harmonious! It will be signed and mailed after the premiere of the composition.
Assistant Producer $1,500 · limit five
- You and a guest are invited to join director Matthew Compton and other members of the Bells of the Cascades organization for dinner at a high-end Portland restaurant during the weekend of our 35th Anniversary concert as a thank you from Bells of the Cascades for your generous support! Details to be sent closer to the date.
Associate Producer $2,500 · limit three
- In addition to the happy hour and dinner events, you will receive lifetime tickets* to Bells of the Cascades concerts! *Two tickets per concert cycle
Executive Producer $5,000 · limit two
- In addition to all of the above tiers, we will host you and a guest for a two-night stay at Hotel Lucia in Portland for the duration of our 35th anniversary concert weekend!
- You will also be the recipient of an additional commission from Matthew Compton, which you can use for another handbell composition or arrangement!
